Butterflies congregating in my stomach. Yikes! A new project looms! God, please give me the strength, the energy, the heart and the brains to do a better-than-good job! Thank You!!

Taking the train to Kansas City, the University of Missouri, to begin writing/work on a new play about Freedom Summer, 1964, in Mississippi. My writing challenge will be to translate my real-life experience with the Free Southern Theater during that pivotal time to a somewhat fictionalized dramatic piece for the stage. I’m dancing around my office!! I fictionalized parts of my journey south during that time for my novel, Freshwater Road. Now, I get to remove the “fictional wraps” and go naked into that moonlit night…

I will be working with Ricardo Khan, former artistic director of the Crossroads Theatre in New Brunswick, New Jersey and his colleague, Sibusiso Mamba from South Africa.
